1. How does the beginning of Chapter 9 show Thom’s desperation and loneliness? Why does Thom feel this way?

We have heard many predictions about who Dark Hero/the Man in Black could be: Thom’s mother, Thom’s father, Goran, and Thom even thinks it could be someone from the League following him as a sort of “security check.” Who do you think Dark Hero is and why? Why do you think Dark Hero is following Thom?
3. On page 137, Thom’s dad says, “Certain things a young man needs these days to get ahead…And I intend to give you all of them. Things are finally looking up.” What do you think Thom’s dad meant when he said this? What things does a young man need? Do you think Thom’s dad will be able to give Thom everything he needs? What about emotional support?

5. Throughout the novel, Thom continuously describes Goran’s look as a “piercing stare.” Why is Thom always so focused on Goran’s expression? How does Goran’s expression make Thom feel? Why do you think Goran looks at Thom in this way?
6. Through Thom’s narration we know a lot about his own feelings during his one-on-one basketball game with Goran, but we do not know what Goran was thinking? How do you think Goran felt? Do you think there were tensions between the two? What are they learning about each other while playing the game?
7. How did Thom’s view of Goran change at the end of the chapter? What instigated this new outlook? What has changed between them since their first interaction?

4)Thom and his dads relationship is progressing because ther having more open oral discussions to each other. They also are starting to get each other more and more.For example Thom and his dad were talking about the basket ball game and Thom aned his dad had a big conversation with him. And in the begging of the book it was a really short conversations they use to have. In the middle they use to have really short conversations to.

I think Dark Hero is Thom dad because I think Thom dad is a protective person because he cares about Thom and he also matches the description of his hand being messed up and from the chapter of where the burglars broke in and he flipped all over the place and on the bus he did the same thing……………………………………………………
5 : Thom is always focused on gorans stare because the why somebody looks at you can be different by what they are saying. like if they say they didnt do something but they did they might be lokking around and you can tell there lying. thom feels his stare is all rage and hate to him. 6: I think Goran was think he was going to try to test thom to see if they were both equaly by seeing if he was worth being mad at him.yes i do think there was tension by the way they played . they learned they can be friends and rivals at the same time. 7: Thom first thought Goran was a jerk at first but then he lightened up when he was being playful with the chino and whaen he smiled at him. the smiled change both of there feelings to each other. they dont real heat each other as much as befor.
1.I think it show Thoms desperation because Thom went to the gay bar and he was looking through dhe window of the bar looking for men.Another reason is because when thom was home alone and was on the computer he started to look at gay porn.So i feel thom is very desperate for a man in his kife because if he dosent he will be lonely.Another reason was that Thom always feel like nobody wants him and hes gonna be lonely all his life and never find a man to love him.
CHAPTER 9 QUESTION 2 I think Dark Hero is Thom's dad. I say that because when Dark Hero and Thom were fighting the d-list villians Dark Hero fought with his hands. That means he has no powers just like the dad. When the league came he left as quick as he could. Thom's dad has problems with the league thats why Thom hid the thing about the tryouts.

Well I think that Dark Hero is Goran. It CANNOT be Thom’s father because at the funeral of Captain Victory Thom’s father wore his costume. If Thom’s father was Dark Hero Thom would have noticed right away, who Dark Hero was. There is a possibility that is it Thom’s mother but, for now there is no possible way to know that Dark Hero is Thom’s mother. Another reason it cannot be Thom’s mother is because Thom would have noticed the chest area of Dark Hero and or the part of the face that is not covered. By seeing Dark Heroes chest area and or part of face that is not covered he could distinguish whether or not Dark Hero is a female or male. Now there is however another possibility. That possibility is that it could be someone from the league following Thom. HOWEVER though you cannot forget about the first time Thom met Dark Hero. The first time he met Dark Hero it was in that bus hi-jacking. Before that bus hi-jacking Thom didn’t even know what “league tryouts” were. Therefore the league did not know anything about Thom. Therefore they had no reason to follow him. Now the reason I think it is Goran is because Goran was the first person in which Thom healed and realized that he could heal. Therefore referring back to the bus hi-jacking I think Goran “Dark Hero” followed Thom to pay him back.

1) At the beginning, it shows Thom's loneliness beacuse after he
made the team, he wanted to celebrate but he realized he had no one to share it with.

In the beginning of chapter 9, Thom is thinking to celebrate because things were going well for him. He probably feels loneliness becuase he has no one to celebrate with.
In the beginning of chapter 9, Thoms shows that he is lonely because he wants to celebrate how good everything is going. Unfortunately, Thom does not have anybody to celebrate with.
I think that Dark Hero is Thom's father because maybe his father knows that Thom has powers. I also think that Dark Hero is following Thom because he wants to know what Thom does in his own time. Also, his dad/Dark Hero might know that Thom is gay.

2) I think the Dark Hero/The Man In Black is Thom's dad. I think this beacuse Thom's dad probably knows that he has powers and is waiting for Thom to spill it. I think this because when Thom's dad wants him to grab 2 beers from the fridge, it has for him and Thom. I thoght there is when Thom would spill his guts.
I think that Thom's dad meant that he knows what it feels to be a young man and he wants to give Thom the life that he never had. What a young man needs in his life is freedom to be who they want to be. Thom's dad is not giving him freedom because he thinks that Thom should only be straight.

3)Thom's dad means that Thom needs some resources to help him succed and his dad wants to give him thos resources. I think Thom's dad will provide him with everything to succed. He will definatly give emotional support because Thom needs someone to be there when he needs someone to be there.

4) I think the bond between Thom and his dad is not increasing because he is always lying to his dad.If they had a better relationship, Thom's dad would know that Thom is gay, has superpowers, and just entered the Leauge.
I think that Thom is focused on Goran because he might be in love with Goran. Goran's expressions makes him feel alive and happy. I think that Goran is also gay and they both like eachother.
